The Office of Somerville Commissions (OSC) provides leadership, representation, and administrative support to the Commissions for Women, Human Rights, and Multicultural Affairs along with supporting the LGBT community with the City's LGBT Liaison. In addition, the OSC promotes commissions in the community.
Some key goals of most commissions and boards include education and raising awareness, enforcement of City's ordinances, protection of rights, support and awareness about vulnerable populations, and recruitment.
There are forty boards, commissions, councils, and committees working for our City's key goals. Contact the OSC to find out more about a commission or board and available positions.
Commissions focus on important issues, programs and events on behalf of the Mayor and Board of Alderman. Joining a commission is part of a community-based government.
Anyone interested in volunteering from two to five hours a month for a commission will find many personal and community-wide benefits.
Short workshops are held throughout the year to let people know about commissions and meet interested applicants for appointment. Check out the material to the right, here, for more info.
